By Eileen Soreng and Sethuraman N R

May 16 Vanadium prices have climbed to four-year highs due to tighter supplies created by a shift in production processes and stringent environmental policies in top producer China.

Vanadium is used to strengthen steel and in a new generation of batteries, which advocates say has advantages over lithium batteries in terms of grid storage.

There is a current shift towards more vanadium being produced from ore rather than as a steel by-product while China tackles environmental regulations, traders and analysts said.

Gold Price Futures (GC) Technical Analysis – June 27, 2017 Forecast

August Comex gold futures are trading higher shortly before the regular session opening. After hitting a six-week low on Monday on a fluke trade, the market is being driven higher today by bargain hunters and a weaker U.S. Dollar.

The dollar is down against a basket of currencies, led by a surge in the Euro. The single currency is being supported by hawkish comments from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi. The EUR/USD surged to its highest level in over a week after Draghi said factors weighing on inflation in the Euro Zone were mainly temporary and the ECB could look through them.

Six Mistakes Dentists Make When Hiring

interview

Remember the class you took in dental school all about interviewing and hiring terrific team members? No? Of course not! Chances are there wasn’t one. It is no wonder that dental teams are frustrated with the process of interviewing and hiring.

Just like prepping a crown, there is a process to hiring that, if done correctly, will yield a great fit, but if not, you will lose time and money and a bit of your sanity in the process. Here are 6 mistakes dentists make while hiring and a few tips on how to avoid them.

Not Asking the Same Questions

Oftentimes we go into an interview with the plan to “feel the candidate out.” We chat, ask about past experience and school, maybe jot down a few notes, and that’s it. Doctors and office managers base their hiring decision on how they “felt” about the candidate. In this case, there is no real metric by which to compare competitors.

This laissez-faire approach will not land you the best fit. What happens if you like 2 candidates equally? What if you and your office manager disagree? Without a standardized way to compare candidates, you will not get the most out of your hire. Instead, go into the interview with a standard set of questions each interviewee is asked. Our suggestions are as follows:

  • What type of culture do you think you fit best in?
  • What does your ideal work place look like? What did you not like about your last job?
  • What core values are most important to you?
  • What do you like about our practice, and why do you want to work here?
  • What do you think you could bring to our practice, and how could you add value?

Dubai: 10 Things to do – 3. Gold Souk

gold soukDubai is known for really cheap gold — but you’ll have to haggle for it. Whether or not you’re ready to buy, a stroll through the dazzling Gold Souk is a must. The stores also offer platinum, diamonds and occasionally silver, and the government keeps tight control over the quality of all the merchandise, so rest assured that your purchases will be genuine. (The same cannot be said, however, of the street vendors outside hawking “genuine fake” watches and “Guuci” handbags.) If something in the window catches your fancy, be sure to barter — persistent protest capped with a walkaway will get merchants to drop their asking price by as much as half.

Gold’s renewed momentum, following a disappointing May jobs report, is expected to continue into next week with some analysts saying that $1,300 could be a viable target.

Gold saw a major boost Friday after the release of a weaker-than-expected nonfarm payrolls report, which showed that 138,000 jobs were created in May, well below expectations for gains of 181,000 jobs.

August gold futures last traded at $1,279.60 an ounce, up 0.64% from last Friday, its fourth consecutive week of positive gains.

The rally in gold helped push up the entire precious metals complex higher with palladium posting its highest price in almost two years; September palladium last traded at $835.45 an ounce, up more than 6% from last week. July Comex silver futures last traded at $17.505, up 1% from last week. Meanwhile, July Platinum was the only weaker metal, last trading at 953.60 an ounce, down almost 1% from the previous week.

Gold producer Eldorado Gold Corp has agreed to buy the remaining shares of Integra Gold Corp , to expand its mining opportunities in the Eastern Abitibi region of Canada.

Integra shareholders have the option of receiving cash or shares in Eldorado or a mix of both. The maximum number of shares issuable by Eldorado under the arrangement will be about 77 million and the total deal value is about C$590 million, inclusive of Integra shares held by Eldorado.

“From previous experience of building and operating gold mines in Canada, I am excited about Eldorado’s entry into the Eastern Abitibi region of Canada,” Eldorado Chief Executive George Burns said in a statement.

Upon completion of deal, existing Eldorado and Integra shareholders would hold about 90 percent and 10 percent of the combined company, respectively.

The Integra acquisition comes after Eldorado in January indefinitely shelved expansion plans for its flagship Kisladag mine in Turkey and put off a development decision on a project in Brazil, citing lower gold prices.

After 11 years of operations in China, Eldorado Gold left the country last year after selling stakes in two mines and a development project to Yintai Resources Co Ltd for $600 million.

How-to-make-a-woman-smile_bigDaily Tips for Good Oral Hygiene

Bacteria can live in your mouth in the form of plaque, causing cavities and gingivitis, which can lead to periodontal (gum) disease. In order to keep your mouth clean, you must practice good  oral hygiene every day.

What is plaque?

Plaque is a sticky layer of material containing bacteria that accumulates on teeth, including where toothbrushes can’t reach. Many of the foods you eat cause the bacteria in your mouth to produce acids. Sugary foods are obvious sources of plaque, but there are others that you might not realize can cause harm. Starches—such as bread, crackers, and cereal—also cause acids to form. Plaque also produces substances that irritate the gums, making them red, sensitive, and susceptible to bleeding. This can lead to gum disease, in which gums pull away from the teeth and form pockets that fill with bacteria and pus. If the gums are not treated, the bone around the teeth can be destroyed and teeth may become loose or have to be removed.

india goldBy Rajendra Jadhav | MUMBAI

Gold demand in India could be muted in the second half of 2017, as the rollout of a new national sales tax from July is expected to dent appetite in the world’s second-biggest consumer, the World Gold Council (WGC) said on Thursday.

But sales are likely to be robust during the first six months of the year, the WGC said.

Gold consumption in the first quarter of 2017 rose 15 percent to 123.5 tonnes on pent-up demand from jewelers as retail consumers ramped up purchases for weddings, the WGC said in a report published on Thursday.

If you plan to retire soon, add this item to your to-do list: a visit to the dentist before your dental insurance disappears.

Retirees transitioning to Medicare are often surprised to learn that the program does not cover routine dental care or more complex procedures.

Overall, 40 percent of the 65-plus population has some form of dental benefit, according to the National Association of Dental Plans. For seniors who use Medicare Advantage managed care plans, about half offer very limited coverage for cleanings and exams. A small percentage of seniors have dental insurance from a former employer, and Medicaid covers dental care for low-income residents in some states, although benefits vary. Some buy individual commercial plans or have coverage through an association such as AARP.

Although the principles of infection control remain unchanged, new technologies, materials, equipment, and data require continuous evaluation of current infection control practices. The unique nature of many dental procedures, instruments, and patient care settings also may require specific strategies directed to preventing pathogen transmission among dental health care personnel and their patients.

CDC’s evidence-based recommendations guide infection control practices in dental offices nationally and globally; provide direction for the public, dental health care personnel and policymakers; and affect technology development in the dental industry.
